How far can we get in eight hours?

Comfortably one region: the Ubud area, the Bukit and Uluwatu, the east coast around Sidemen and Tirta Gangga, or Tanah Lot and Jatiluwih. Each is three to four stops plus lunch. Crossing to North Bali and back in eight hours leaves almost no time at the sites, so for that book the waterfall day trip instead.

Does Dewa act as a guide as well as a driver?

He drives, plans the route, explains what you are looking at and helps with tickets and parking. He is not a licensed temple guide, so inside larger temples you may want the local guide on offer at the entrance; that is paid separately.

Can we book a bigger car for our group?

Yes, and it is a good use of a late flight: check out, spend the day touring with your luggage in the car, and be dropped at the airport at the end. Tell Dewa your flight time when you book so he can plan the route to finish near Tuban.

He speaks English, knows which sites get crowded when, and is used to adjusting the plan on the day.

Typical days from Kuta or Seminyak: the Ubud loop (Tegalalang rice terraces, Tirta Empul, Ubud market and a waterfall), the Uluwatu afternoon (beaches, the cliff temple and the kecak dance at sunset), the east coast (Tirta Gangga, Lempuyang and Sidemen), or the Tanah Lot and Jatiluwih rice-terrace circuit. Eight hours is enough for three or four stops in one region with a relaxed lunch. It is not enough to cross the island and back with time to see anything, so pick a direction.
